@AlbertDelRe1 @MLB @Reds I wouldn't say Stewart's merely a league average player at all. He had a great s r ason.
But, Benge had a better all around season, and he was gold-glove calibur in the outfield.

@EllyDeLaMuse Benge was better in the first half (2.0 to 1.6 WAR) and blew Stewart away in the second half (2.3 to 0.3 WAR) so your argument falls flat.
Stewart was bad since the ASB, with a 102 wRC+. Meanwhile Benge delivered every day with the bat, on the bases, in the field. #BengeForROY
Benge ended the year with 20 HR. But in Great American Ballpark, he'd have 24.
Stewart ended the year with 32 HR. But in Citi Field, he'd have 26.
Benge is a better hitter, runner, and defender. He has a higher average, OBP, and more than 2x Stewart's WAR.

My streaming stats from this year, not including yesterday’s game (hasn’t updated), any braves games (out of market), and national broadcast games. I believe I watched 160 this year.
Bad year for the Mets, but plenty of passion. Looking forward to next season. #BengeforROY
I am just learning that the single hardest throw by any player this season was by... Carson Benge.
He also had the hardest average throw among anyone with 400 attempts.
Second-hardest average among RF.
Great defender. Great player. #BengeForROY

Five Facts about Carson Benge, and why he should be the Rookie of the Year. #BengeForROY
1. Since 1995, only 21 rookies have put up 4+ WAR and an OPS+ of 115 or better over 570+ PA. 18/21 won ROY. The only exceptions are Merrill (lost to Skenes), Heyward (Posey) and Kwan (J-Rod)
Mets lobby for 'superstar' Carson Benge to win NL Rookie of the Year https://t.co/aO69fDMC9f
Stewart is 5th in the NL among rookies in WAR, he's not even 1st among first basemen (Rumfield).
Who in their right mind is voting for a 1B with a .332 OBP over an outfielder with a .344 OBP, 20/20, who can run and defend with a cannon arm?
#BengeForROY
TJ Rumfield is the first rookie to lead his league in OBP in 100 years.

Will the BBWAA really give the #NLROY to Sal Stewart, who would be the worst player to win it in 33 years? Since Erik Karros won with 0.4 WAR in 1992?

3. Sal Stewart currently has 1.9 WAR. If he wins the ROY, he will be the third-worst player to do so in the last 65 years. The lowest WAR for ROY winners:
- Billy Williams (1.2 WAR in 1961)
- Ron Kittle (1.9 WAR in 1983)
- Erik Karros (0.4 WAR in 1992).

5. #BengeForROY's 4.2 WAR is more than double that of Stewart. The last time a ROY was awarded to a position player that had *less than half* a competitor’s WAR?
2010.
That year, Neftali Feliz (40 saves as a rookie, 2.5 WAR) won over Austin Jackson’s 745 OPS.
4. 217 rookies have had 500+ PA in their debut since 1995. Of that group, Sal Stewart ranks 130th by WAR and 44th by OPS+. A truly pedestrian season. His debut pales in comparison to that of Ike Davis, Mark Trumbo and Triston Casas. Many peers got no votes at all.

2. Since 1980, eight rookies have gone 20/20 with an OPS+ over 105, over 450+ at bats: Benge, Chourio, Carroll, Julio, Arozarena, Trout, Garciaparra, and Marty Cordova. All won ROY except for Chourio.
Since 1947, only ten rookies have gone 20/20 105 OPS+. #BengeForROY

Only six MLB players rank in the 70th percentile or higher in all three of Statcast's Value metrics (batting, baserunning and fielding):
-Pete Crow-Armstrong
-Bobby Witt Jr.
-Corbin Carroll
-Elly De La Cruz
-Otto Lopez
-Carson Benge
Impressive company for the only rookie there.
