Ann has given attendees some extremely useful advice on what to think about before meeting with a Guidance Counsellor (be that in your school, local ETB, a college, or institute of FE) and also information in relation to aptitude/personality/interest tests. #BetterOptions2020
Thrilled to have Guidance Counsellor Ann Fallon as our final presenter for #BetterOptions2020. We took a poll at the beginning of Ann's session and found that 45% of respondents didn't know what course they wanted to do, so the information Ann is providing is highly relevant.

Ann informed us that, as it is a national scheme, most colleges in ROI are part of DARE. You only need to apply once and this is applicable for all of these institutions. However, it is important to note that the point reduction is not standard across colleges. #BetterOptions2020
One of the most common topics students as us queries on is on the Disability Access Route to Education (DARE). We are just delighted to have Ann O'Connor from DCU explain to attendees what you need to be eligible and how exactly to apply for this scheme. #BetterOptions2020
AHEAD CEO @dararyder opening our afternoon session by thanking the Disability Advisors Working Network (DAWN) who have been working with AHEAD for 14 years, and also @NCGEGuidance who helped us source some of the great speakers we have seen present today. #BetterOptions2020
@USI_Equality emphasised importance of getting involved in clubs and societies. The social aspect of college is so important; it's a great time to develop friendships and skills/talents! Thank you Marie for reminding us of this and for your excellent talk. #BetterOptions2020
@USI_Equality's presentation gave attendees information on the vital role of the Student's Union; every college has an SU which represents students and provides support and organises events. Your SU can highlight any issues you're facing - reach out to them! #BetterOptions2020
@hanlouwho_ has also informed attendees of the newly formed Students with Disabilities Advisory Group; a group of engaged students with disabilities that feeds into the work of AHEAD through discussing issues on the ground. #BetterOptions2020

This overview of Disability Supports was wonderfully helpful. I particularly appreciated the crucial point Clare made on how important it is not to be prescriptive; to tailor accommodations/supports to the individual studentβs needs. #BetterOptions2020
