It always tolls for thee.” When somebody dies, the church bell informs the whole village. But never send anybody to ask for whom the bell tolls; it always tolls for thee. Whoever may have died right now... each death is your death, because each death is a reminder that you are not going to be here forever. Each death is an opportunity to be awake. Before death comes use the opportunity of life to attain something which is beyond death. It is pointless to be worried because you will be simply missing this moment and you won't help anybody. And it is not that only your parents and your friends, your beloved, are in danger: the whole world is in danger. It is only a question... ok Somebody is in danger today, somebody else will be in danger tomorrow - but the danger is there. So learn the secret of how to transcend the danger. The secret is, start living more fully, more totally. Be more alert so that you can find within yourself something that is unreachable by death. That is the only shelter, the only security, the only safety. And if you want to help your friends and family, let them become aware of this secret. There are going to be disasters. This is just the beginning. Use the opportunity to be awake - that's all you can do. There is nothing else that you can do. And tell your friends to use the moment for meditation. So it is only a question of how to use everything - whatever it is. Use it rightly. The disaster is great, the danger is great, but great is the opportunity too. #BeyondBirth #BeyondDeath When we hear that someone has passed away, we often write RIP (Rest in Peace) almost automatically, without reflecting on its deeper implications. It has become a cultural habit—particularly shaped by Western traditions. In many Western faiths, there is a belief in a final Day of Judgment, and until that time, the soul is understood to rest in peace. However, the Hindu family of Eastern traditions—Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Jainism—offers a very different understanding. In these philosophies, the soul does not remain in a state of prolonged rest. Rather, it moves onward. Life continues in another form, another body, shaped by past actions and unfulfilled desires. Desire becomes the momentum for rebirth. Nature itself participates in this ongoing cycle—birth and death forming part of its autonomous and ever-creative rhythm. Liberation (Moksha or Nirvana), however, is not automatic. It is an individual’s conscious awakening—freedom from the cycle of birth and death. In this light, perhaps our words at the time of death can reflect the worldview of the departed soul. Instead of saying “Rest in Peace,” we might offer blessings such as: 1. May your journey onward be luminous. 2 May you move toward higher consciousness. 3 May your onward path be guided by light and awareness, or 4 Have a peaceful onward journey in the spirit world. What matters most is the spirit behind the words—our sincerity, our love, and our blessing. Death is not an ending; it is a doorway without walls. The body falls like a garment, but the flame of consciousness does not know extinction. It moves… as wind moves, as river moves, as desire moves, as awareness chooses to move. Some return to the wheel of becoming. Some rise beyond the wheel. Some dissolve like a drop into the ocean of being. Who are we to command it to “rest”?
