🧵(1/2) 2023-24 #ERAS data shows big win for #BigSignaling. #ENTSignaling provides ENT applicants the confidence to reduce number of applications submitted (59 ave). This reduced mean number of applications received per program (258), even though total number of applicants rose.

Big ups for #BigSignaling. The strategy of high-signal numbers decreases the “arms race” of #ApplicationFever. Past applicant strategy was to apply broadly and widely. BigSignaling offers a more targeted approach, reducing waste and cost. Will see how this affects #OtoMatch.

Check out this thread by @jbcarmody, who scooped the analysis of signaling—and #BigSignaling (specialties that provided applicants with large number of signals). Specialties that used Big #Signaling saw lower apps per applicant and lower apps per program. Targeted application!

WINNER: Preference signaling. The reason applications are down is because many specialties are now using ‘big number’ preference signaling. For the specialties on the left side of this graphic, the number of signals applicants receive functions as a soft application cap.
