#US Bitcoin miners relocating older rigs, #Ethiopia emerges as destination due to cheap electricity With the upcoming Bitcoin halving event in April 2024, US miners are relocating older mining rigs to countries with cheaper electricity costs to maintain profitability. Ethiopia is emerging as a notable destination for these mining operations. According to crypto-mining services provider Luxor Technology, a significant portion of the around 600,000 older S19 series mining rigs being moved out of the US are headed to Ethiopia. The East African nation's cheap electricity, costing around 3 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh), is a major draw. While these older mining rigs may not be cost-efficient to operate in the US, where electricity costs range from 3 to 6 cents per kWh, they can still generate profits in regions with cheaper power, as stated by a major player in the Bitcoin mining industry. Ethiopia's low electricity rates, along with its renewable energy sources, have positioned the country as an attractive location for crypto mining companies. Earlier this year, reports indicated that Chinese mining firms were increasing their investment in Ethiopia, citing the nation's inexpensive power as a key factor. https://t.co/Lp7DQxnkuR
