๐นit targets legacy #signature spends (ecdsa/schnorr on old-style addresses/outputs), not the #wallet hardware itself.
๐นif your #bitcoin is still in a #quantum-vulnerable utxo (e.g., older p2pkh, p2sh, or even taproot with exposed public keys), after the 5-year flag day in phase b, those funds become unspendable on the network - even from a cold wallet.
๐นthe #privatekeys on your ledger (or any hardware wallet) stay safe, but the blockchain would simply reject legacy signature transactions for those old outputs.
what you need to do (if/when activated):
๐ธ#migrate your btc to a new post-quantum address (like p2qrh from related proposals) before the deadline.
๐ธledger (and other #hardwarewallets) would need to add support for the new quantum-resistant signing/address types - theyโre already researching pqc, but its not there yet.
๐ธcold storage is actually one of the main use cases discussed: long-dormant or inheritance wallets risk getting frozen if owners miss the migration window.
this is still just a draft proposal under debate (no activation, no consensus). the goal is to prevent quantum theft of unmigrated coins, but critics call the forced sunset too aggressive for true cold storage.
bottom line for #ledger users: your device is fine, but youโd still have to move funds to new-style addresses in time, just like hot wallets. watch for updates on bip-361 and @Ledgerโs post-quantum roadmap.
