The Federal Aviation Administration has ordered inspections of 471 US-registered Boeing 737 MAXs for cracks in the body of the plane, warning that undetected damage could reduce the aircraft’s structural integrity. In a statement the FAA said, "The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Boeing 737-8, 737-9, and 737-8200 airplanes. The AD was prompted by reports of cracks in the bear strap at the forward upper corner of the forward galley door cutout. It requires an inspection of the fuselage skin for existing repairs and applicable on-condition actions." Last month, the FAA proposed another airworthiness directive that would require the inspection of seat assemblies on 453 Boeing 737 Max jets in case they were incorrectly installed.
