Surviving Mars: Pioneer is an upcoming virtual reality (VR) survival simulation set in the Surviving Mars universe. It is being developed by Danish developer Studio Bolverk Games (Genotype, Dick Wilde 1, 2 and Kittypocalypse) in collaboration with Flat2VR Studios and published by Paradox Interactive.

Unlike the original Surviving Mars (released in 2018), which was a top-down strategy game focused on managing a Martian colony, Surviving Mars: Pioneer shifts to a first-person VR experience, placing you directly in the role of a lone settler tasked with surviving and thriving on the Red Planet.

How It Differs from the Original
While the original Surviving Mars focused on large-scale colony management with a strategic, overseer perspective, Surviving Mars: Pioneer zooms in to a personal, ground-level survival challenge. It’s less about building sprawling Martian cities and more about carving out a foothold as the first one there, facing the planet’s indifference head-on.
Occupy Mars ❗️
You’ll establish and maintain an autonomous mining operation, managing critical resources like oxygen, nutrition, and power. The game emphasizes hands-on mechanics, such as physically building and optimizing your base (e.g., setting up power grids and extracting resources) in a harsh, unforgiving Martian environment. Exploration is also a key feature-equipped with a jetpack, you’ll traverse cliffs, endure dust storms, and uncover mysteries hidden beneath the planet’s surface.
Players can take on contracts to mine, refine, and export resources, unlocking advanced blueprints, vehicles, and technology to enhance survival odds.
