A quick information card about soon to be released book. A little controversial, but a heck of a story.

@NectarLiterary @alysonsinclair @k8scarlett @PressShopPR @krd923 @nickcourage @darcierowan @kristindwyer @beth_parker Hi, all!! Little late, but I've used @merylmossmedia for almost all of my 13 books and novels and cannot recommend them enough. They are a close-knit company with deep connections and have been in business for 25 years. #BookPublicityAMA

Thank you to all who followed, commented and asked questions during #BookPublicityAMA - I have to hop off but you are welcome to continue to message me questions and I’ll answer #darcierowanpr
@microMAF Great question - for the most part I find it’s the relationships I have with media that gets authors interviewed and reviewed whether they are self-published or legacy published. Digital media, blog/vlogs, podcasts, radio, magazines- there are so many options #BookPublicityAMA
@BRIawesome I started as a journalism student who paid my way through college so with good writing skills and ability to talk on the phone I got a job doing publicity at a computer startup. I loved it and eventually found my way from #techpr to #bookpr #BookPublicityAMA
@BRIawesome Everything that @krd923 said is true - I’d also add that a lot of my job is similar to life coaching — clients come to me with a goal & we help them learn how to achieve aspects on their own and with our help #BookPublicityAMA
1. Which media are more receptive to reviewing self-published works?
2. What challenges are specific to publicizing self-published works?

Figuring out how many times to follow up w/ a particular contact is a bit of an art. You don't want to be annoying, but you don't want to let a great op slip by b/c the editor was slammed the 1st/2nd time. Also depends what type of outlet, your relationship, etc #BookPublicityAMA
Hey #bookpublicityama! How many times do you follow up on a pitch to mainstream media? And how specific do you make your pitch to newspapers and the like (offering example interview questions or outlining a whole article)?
We often include a sample Q&A w/ our press materials, especially for radio producers. It gives them a sense of what an interview could look like. And it makes their jobs easier. Making it easy for journalists to cover your clients is key. #BookPublicityAMA

@beth_parker Excellent points! #bookpublicityama Sometimes authors are trying to build their name for more speaking engagements or because they want to be a source for interviews. It’s important to tell your publicist what are your short & long term goals
@sarahmariewrote #bookpublicityama first off, you need to love books. Then, it would be good if you are tenacious and a leave-no-Stone-unturned-type of person.
#bookpublicityama Love seeing this amazing group answering questions. I have an author call now but I'll hop back on later to see if I can offer any helpful tips!

@elizafrank #bookpublicityama ask the publicist if they’ve worked with books like yours and ask where they might approach for your book. Also, think of this person as someone you will be working with for months. Do you like him/her?
Great group of publicists and marketing folks here to answer your burning questions about publishing! #BookPublicityAMA
I would say you have to be really passionate about authors and books. You want your life's work to be about helping people to discover amazing new voices. I tell publicists who love PR but don't necessarily love books that book publicity is not the right field for them.
This #BookPublicityAMA is happening NOW. (I'm not on the roster, but I heartily recommend that you take advantage of the opportunity to get your questions out there and answered!)
What does a book publicist &/or marketer do? Should I hire a freelance publicist? A group of us (tagged in this image!) will answer these ?s & others TODAY/Friday. Use the #BookPublicityAMA hashtag &/or @ us and we’ll respond to as many as we can 📚✌🏽

#bookpublicityama, I recommend a good old fashioned phone call. It let's the publicist and the author really get a good feel for each other to make sure they are the right match!
#bookpublicityama how do you determine who will be the "right publicist"?
