Bootscarpers of Pollokshields in Glasgow. These pieces of street furniture would have once been found at the entrance to most town houses and many tenement closes. #glasgow #pollokshields #streetfurniture #bootscrapers #ironwork

#Bootscrapers first appeared in towns and cities in the early #1900s as it became fashionable for people to go #walking or #strolling along the avenues. Learn more at https://t.co/yRzyKVRAUA

Love these over-sized wrought-iron bootscrapers at the entrance to Pollok House on the Southside of Glasgow. #glasgow #bootscrapers #ironwork #metalwork #pollokhouse

Chunky and functional versus refined and elegant. Who wins the battle of the #BootScrapers? The boot scrappers of #SuttonMandevilleChurch #IronworkThursday

#IronworkThursday A proud scrolling boot scraper on the cool, damp, mossy side of All Saints, Brightwalton. Those mottled colours!

Sadly, my search for #BootScrapers so far has yielded functionality but little aesthetic appeal. My search continues TTM🐭

Rather understated door to chancel at #SteepleLangfordChurch, set into lovely coursed flint and dressed stone south wall. The Victorians did a nice job of this one #AddorableThursday

You can still find bootscrapers outside buildings across the city, but the design in the bottom left is not one I've seen elsewhere. Thanks to @Harjam10 for bringing it to my attention. #glasgow #pollokshields #streetfurniture #bootscrapers #ironwork #metalwork

British summers can often be wet, so muddy boots still need cleaning. Our boot scraper range in cast iron is available in three designs: Plain, Dug-In and Ornamental. https://t.co/UhU8bu0hZq #castiron #bootscrapers

Disguised as #BootScrapers, #Warwick's secret society of Moustache-Men (1863-1903) placed these subtle signs at the front doors of safe houses around the town where refuge could be sought from the rival Beard-Boy gang. #Unbelievable
