Want the Border Act of 2024 without the noise? Here is the TLDR of what is actually in the bill and how it fits into the 119th Congress. https://t.co/HYbIyMcNAR #BorderAct #Congress #Immigration #Civics
🔥NOLAN RAPPAPORT: The #BorderAct “would not stop the administration from continuing to create questionable parole programs to admit migrants who don’t have visas or other valid entry documents. It would not end catch and release [or] meritless asylum claims….”

Border Act of 2024: A closer look at the proposal
“The takeaway is that this bill would just perpetuate the “let as many undocumented migrants as possible into the country” measures that caused the border crisis.”

Say it louder! Thanks @JoeBiden!
Now the US Senate must pass the #BorderAct to strengthen our progress.
CBS News exclusive: Migrant crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border have plunged 54% from record highs, internal data shows. https://t.co/sLdF1ZfwX2
Hey, Chuck Schumer: Your so-called “Border Act” is a sham bill that only makes things worse. #Borderact #borderbill
Schumer’s “Border Act” pretends to secure the border but is an ineffective, unnecessary bill that makes things worse. #Borderfail #Borderbill #Borderact
2.7 What if the Service does not conduct the mandated protection determination during the 90-day period set by #BorderAct -- well the person does not have to go through the new more stringent CFI standard at all but "shall be referred for protection merits removal proceedings in accordance with 240D". Again no discretion granted to Service; miss the 90 days deadline -- jump to the next step and now the person gets a work permit. Now talk about a safety valve!
Day 2 of #BorderAct analysis: I'm gonna try to tackle the new "noncustodial" proceedings for those apprehended or surrendering at or in between POEs (land and maritime at So Border). #Immigration
2.1 Keep in mind that this bill makes no changes to sec 240 [regular removal proceedins] and other than changing the standard for CFI, no meaningful changes to sec 235 [expedited removal proceedings].
Thus, if this is to become law inspecting officers keep the authority to place ppl in 240 and regular 235b proceedings **in addition to the new provisional removal proceedings**.
Also this bill does not mandate any detention other than what is part of 235, 236, and 241.
The Provisional Removal Proceedings accomplish 2 things:
* eliminate the parole or release at border w NTA or Notice to Report
* moves the flow of arriving migrants away from EOIR into DHS exclusive jurisdiction by creating a parallel "rocket docket azylum 'EOIR'" body under the supervision and authority of DHS sec rather than under DOJ's.
#AsylumSeekers #BorderAct, a cruel and evil process has started,@pritipatel, now the question is 'who's next on the agenda', are any foreigner nationalities really safe #Windrush, vote wisely on May 5th. @ReadingRefugees @acrereading @RefugeeAction @ppvernon #Madness #Hamlet
🇬🇧 With The Borders Act secured, we will ensure our immigration system protects those in genuine need while cracking down on abuse and evil people smuggling gangs.
