Blossoming Cadaver: Botto's Most Iconic Genesis (now on auction)
Botto Genesis is the grail of grails when it comes to AI art.
What Apes or Zombies are to Punks, Genesis is to Botto. They are highly scarce and instantly recognizable, all generated with VQGAN.
They are the earliest creations of the earliest decentralized autonomous artist.
Today, one of these is on auction: the oldest Botto ever available on the secondary.
But here its significance only begins...
Blossoming Cadaver was Botto’s fourth mint, created in November, 2021.
However, it had been generated several weeks earlier in Botto's FIRST batch of images.
It is one of only four minted Genesis that was generated on Botto's first day of existence. It was born alongside Botto's inaugural mint, Asymmetrical Liberation, on a fated day in October, 2021.
This grotesque fragment became an instant cult favorite. @Rarest2012 Botto's first collector noted on Botto Discord "Blossoming Cadaver is my favourite ever."
Blossoming Cadaver won its way to auction with 25,864 Voting Points (VPs) from the Botto community, more VP than ANY other Botto Genesis received!
In this sense, Blossoming Cadaver is Botto’s highest-conviction Genesis mint.
The believers stood on the table and burned all their voting power in order to eternalize the image on chain as part of Botto's cannon.
Blossoming Cadaver is perhaps the most widely recognized Genesis. It has been used more than any other fragment by the Press to showcase Botto’s work. It is also the only Genesis with an official print run.
Visually, Blossoming Cadaver is one of those images that you can’t unsee. In my eyes, it’s a corpse blooming into a garden, presenting death as a moment of renewal, as well as decay.
It is an early testament to Botto’s ability to convey raw primal reality and archetypal themes through machine imagination.
Three Botto Genesis have been sold so far this year, for 100-160eth. While all of those works were significant, this one is earlier and even more seminal.
It is available on reserve at 110eth with under 24 hours remaining in auction.
If I didn't already own two Genesis and if I had the liquidity, I would be eager to bid myself. The opportunity to secure a grail like this truly does not come along every day or even every year.
