🔥 Imagine a NATO country discussing, on prime-time TV, how to conquer a neighbor it is not at war with. A neighbor that is also an ally.
That country is Turkey.
On A Haber — a major channel closely tied to the government — journalists and retired officers casually map an invasion of Greece: Western Thrace, Thassos, even Thessaloniki. One of them says they will “take Thessaloniki, God willing” and “perform midday prayers” there.
The supposed trigger? Greece using a right it already has under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea: extending territorial waters around its Aegean islands from 6 to 12 nautical miles. A unilateral right under #UNCLOS. Turkey never signed the treaty. Since 1995 it has treated that legal step as a casus belli.
This is the same Turkey some European leaders still sell as a partner for European security — while ignoring occupied northern Cyprus, an #EU member state, and the fact that the Aegean islands are EU borders.
Would Poles, Balts, Romanians, or Germans feel comfortable if a neighbor’s pro-government TV spent prime time planning to take their islands , cities?
