@africatechie The cover-up is the story. Reports of an internet shutdown coinciding with massive, uncontained protests confirm the attempt to hide the people's will. The world sees the censorship even if they can't see all the videos. #BringBackOurInternet #BiyaMustGo
Cameroon 🇨🇲 shut down the internet so the world wouldn’t see people marching to claim their victory, with security forces seemingly unable to contain.

Shooting down the #Internet in moment of political quagmire only deepens already chaotic-political atmosphere.
This is an outright abuse of #DigitalRights.
Cameroonians must remain vigilant & strong.

Cameroonians across much of the country are experiencing limited internet access as tensions mount over the delayed proclamation of the October 12 presidential election results.
The announcement, initially expected today (Thursday, Oct 23), has been postponed to Monday, Oct 27, fueling uncertainty and frustration. Many citizens report unstable connections even when using VPNs, raising fears of a deliberate restriction to control information amid growing calls for protests.
Observers note that this mirrors the 2017 Anglophone internet shutdown, which lasted 94 days and marked the start of the ongoing conflict in the English-speaking regions. It led to the widespread use of the hashtag #BringBackOurInternet.
Civil society groups warn that silencing communication in moments of political tension only deepens mistrust and threatens national stability.
Cameroon now faces a critical weekend as citizens, opposition parties, and the international community watch closely for transparency, restraint, and a peaceful outcome.

They're trying to silence the people once again. They did it before at the start of the #anglophonecrises in 2017, and They're doing it once again.

" Le gouvernement se réserve le droit de prendre les mesures appropriées pour éviter qu’Internet ne soit à nouveau utilisé pour susciter la haine et la discorde entre Camerounais ou pour créer des troubles à l’ordre public."
Issa Tchiroma après #BringBackourInternet 🤡🤡🤡
Even if they don’t shut down internet connection on Election Day, they will likely censure social media and/or reduce the bandwidth so that internet is basically unusable.
So right now: install your VPNs. Many free ones on the market.
Have enough basic phone/sms credit already available beforehand. Don’t wait to D day to recharge.

The #BringBackOurInternet hashtag, led mainly by Francophones, was the top trend in Cameroon for most of the 93 days of the shutdown, falling to second place only twice during the Afcon finals. The outcry brought global attention.
Francophones in Douala welcomed “digital refugees” into their homes and offices. Some even traveled to ground zero to show solidarity.
Many still keep #EndAnglophoneCrisis in their Twitter handles. One demand of the September 2020 protests, which left many still in prison today, was the Anglophone Crisis.
Many did not understand, and some still do not. But during that period, there was real support, and we should acknowledge it.
Francophones are funny.
Quick questions.
When internet was cut in the NW and SW regions of Cameroon. Did they do anything about it? Did they even try to protest for it to be restored?
When Biya landed at the Nsimalen airport and declared WAR on NW and SW. What did they do?
@favbangwaboy They practically led the fight to restore the Internet in 2017. You can read about it in my article, "#BringBackOurInternet Cameroon Government Internet Shutdown & Digital Activist Resistance during the Anglophone Revolt" https://t.co/dfo521eM0U

Lorsqu’ils sentent leur gombo et petits privilèges du pouvoir menacés, ils invoquent « la sécurité nationale » pour tout restreindre ? D’accord.
