A year ago Trump signed into law the biggest cuts to Medicaid in our history in the form of the Big Beautiful Bill. He and his MAGA GOP in Congress knew cuts to Medicaid and the CHIP program would harm children but they passed it anyway. Already these cuts have reduced children’s coverage and access to health care. Medicaid and CHIP together cover approximately 36 million children. Many states have no option but to reduce children’s eligibility, children’s benefits, and pay for pediatric providers in response to the huge Medicaid cuts in the BBB. The cuts aren't over either. More to come in 2027. Republicans like to say they are Pro-life, but they lie constantly. Vote for Democrats up and down the ballot to protect children. #DemsUnited

We shouldn’t have to remind a president that disaster relief is for Americans, not Republicans. But on the same day Trump approved more than $846 million in aid for nine states that voted for him, he denied $227 million to New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island — four states led by Democratic governors. FEMA’s own estimates showed that all four had sustained enough damage to meet the agency’s existing thresholds for federal assistance. It’s part of a disturbing pattern. Earlier reporting found that Trump had approved just 23% of disaster requests from states with Democratic governors and senators, compared with 89% from states under unified Republican leadership. Now FEMA is also threatening to withhold part of more than $1 billion in terrorism-prevention grants unless states comply with Trump’s election demands — including citizenship checks, hand-marked paper ballots, and new audit requirements. Twenty percent of the funding could be held back from states that refuse. So the agency responsible for helping Americans survive disasters and protect communities from terrorism is increasingly being politicized. Aid if your state supported Trump. Public-safety money if you rewrite your election systems to suit him. This is emergency management turned into loyalty tests and hostage tactics. Natural disasters don’t check voter registration. Fires don’t ask whether your governor is a Democrat. Floodwaters don’t spare Republican homes. Terrorist threats don’t follow party lines. Every American deserves help when disaster strikes. That should go without saying. But under Trump, we need to say it. Loudly.
