Attaboy #ATLS334; they took off from Winnipeg using the wrong Mode-S (#29CBBF) for #RCAF CC-130H Hercules 130334, and mid-flight programmed their transponder to use right Mode-S (#C2AF63). Outstanding.

130332 #C2AF4F is at CFB Winnipeg 🇨🇦 130334 #C2AF63 is at CFB Greenwood 🇨🇦 130337 #C2AF81 is at CFB Winnipeg 🇨🇦 130341 #C2AF9F is at RAF Waddington 🇬🇧 130341 is the only serviceable CC-130H Hercules capable of drogue refuelling. https://t.co/6XCtFUTsXv

🇨🇦 Sloppy #RCAF 413 Transport and Rescue Squadron out of #14WingGreenwood still can't follow instructions and program their Mode-S transponder correctly. They're using a Mode-S identifier of #29CBBF on CC-130H 130334, which should be programmed with the correct value of #C2AF63.

To spell it out, the above screenshot shows #RCAF CC-130H 130334 using a ICAO Mode-S number that is a placeholder (Hex:#29CBBF Oct:12345677) , and not the number given to the aircraft (Hex:#C2AF63 Oct:60527543). It's kind of like the plane's VIN, every plane is assigned one.

In the following days, through their transponder, they positively identified themselves as 130334, demonstrating they're not using their assigned Mode-S number #C2AF63, they're flying with a phoney number, a placeholder; #29CBBF (12345677), which is against their own policy.

Days later, 🇨🇦 #RCAF CC-130H 130334 flew multiple training missions out of #8WingTrenton as call sign #TNDR334, still using their correct assigned Mode-S address #C2AF63. Still all good.

On 2022-11-13 🇨🇦 #RCAF CC-130H 130334 #C2AF63 call sign #CFC86 returned from Iqaluit, using their Mode-S transponder broadcasting their identity to anyone in line of sight, up to hundreds of km at altitude. This was fine, they were correctly configured. https://t.co/rsFvg0pj38

Today we'll go over what happened to 🇨🇦 #RCAF CC-130H 130334 (Mode-S #C2AF63), and how it came to be on the wrong side of domestic RCAF policy, but nobody is going to admit to that, because it's too geeky, and calls attention to the RCAF being sloppy, publicly, again.

Last night, a @RCAF_ARC CC130H from 424 Squadron found a fisher lost in the forest 70 km south of Val d’Or, QC. Thanks to his flashlight, the Hercules crew spotted him and guided the @SureteduQuebec to his location. It pays to #BePrepared. #RCAF #SARPartners
