3rd video. One side of the #aircraft has been painted to reflect the part the USAAF and #Dakota #C47s played in Lincolnshire and at RAF Metheringham. The markings reflect #USAAF 14th Troop Carrier Squadron, as based at Barkston Heath (Station 483) Lincolnshire, England in #1944

I'll again share the recollection of my late father-in-law. He was on guard duty in England late night June 5/6, 1944. Suddenly, the skies were filled with #C47s ferrying our paratroopers to #France. Two weeks later he landed in #Normandy. Helped liberate a death camp. #DDay79

Maggie & I went to the site of USAAF Station 484 (#RAFFolkingham) that 75yrs ago was a busy place ahead of DDay with C47’s over 2000 staff and the 82Airborne Divisions 508 parachute infantry regiments troops Eerily silent, long forgotten no plaques. #82airborne #C47s #DDay

@ReassessHistory @bbmf USAAF Medical Air Evacuation sorties started on 23 June, with 3,363 evacuated that month. By August the number being evacuated monthly had increased to 25,000, or just over 800 a day. Across the 14 Groups of IX Troop Carrier Command this equated to 58 per Group, per day.
