On Friday in Bulawayo, it wasn't just a Workers' Day celebration, it was a statement. Students and @ARTUZ_teachers stood shoulder to shoulder, celebrating labour while taking a firm stand against the persecution of @EmmanuelSitima7 and @Mhukatakunda for daring to speak out against CAB3. That's what solidarity looks like, celebrating workers, yes, but also defending those who pay the price for speaking truth to power. But here's the sad and difficult reality many young people are living even before graduation. For some, the struggle begins early. Students are already juggling lectures with low-paying, insecure work just to afford basics. Internships, sold as "essential stepping stones," are often unpaid or underpaid. That doesn't build opportunity but it builds barriers. Only those who can afford to work for free get ahead. Everyone else gets left behind. And after graduation? The mismatch between qualifications and available jobs leaves countless young graduates trapped in roles that don't reflect their skills, their training, or their dreams. Underemployment. Short-term contracts. No stability. Across regions, students are graduating not into promised futures, but into labour markets defined by uncertainty.
