The first large bid for construction of the cooling water structures was awarded by #SPIC for its #Laiyang #NPP in #Shandong province. The plant is one of the candidate projects to be approved this year. The plant will be first equipped with two 1543 MW #CAP1400 rectors, and will ultimately host 6 of those reactors, making it one of the world's most powerful NPP projects currently under planning with a capacity of 9258 MW.

Der CAP1400 ist ein fortschrittlicher Druckwasserreaktor der Gen. 3+. Es handelt sich um eine vergrößerte Version des CAP1000, welcher mit Hilfe des US-amerikanischen Unternehmens #Westinghouse entwickelt wurde.
Die Forschung für diesen Reaktor begann bereits im Jahr 2008. Im Jahr 2009 wurde die Staatliche Demonstrationsgesellschaft für Kernkraftwerke gegründet. Dieses Joint Venture wurde gegründet, um die CAP1400 Reaktoren zu bauen und zu betreiben.
Basieren tut der CAP1400 im Endeffekt auf dem US-Amerikanischen #AP1000 von Westinghouse. Diese Reaktoren haben ein passives Kernnot-/ und Nachkühlsystem. Das macht sie noch robuster gegen äussere Einflüsse. Der sogenannte #StationBlackOut (der Fukushima in die Kernschmelze trieb) wird hiermit beherrscht.
Der Bau des ersten Blocks begann im Juni 2019, der zweite Block folgte im April 2020. Die National Nuclear Safety Administration erteilte im Juli 2024 eine Betriebsgenehmigung für den ersten Reaktor.
Der Reaktor wird nun einer schrittweisen Leistungssteigerung mit parallen Funktionsprüfungen unterzogen. Damit soll ein sicherer Betrieb gewährleistet und die volle Funktionstüchtigkeit nachgewiesen werden, bevor er offiziell in den kommerziellen Betrieb geht.
Der Erfolg der CAP1400 ist ein bedeutender Schritt nach vorn für China und die Nuklearindustrie.
