More work is needed to close the gap in stillbirths and deaths in newborns for Aboriginal mums – while the gap has decreased between 2019 and 2020, we can do better #ccopmm
Children who are known to child protection make up more than their share of child and adolescent deaths #ccopmm
Women and children who are disadvantaged – for example because of their income, education, where they live, mental health or cultural background – are vulnerable to poorer health outcomes #ccopmm
While Vic is one of the safest places in the world to have a baby or raise a family, we should always strive for better. #ccopmm reviews birth outcomes, as well as deaths in mothers, newborns and children, to see how we could make healthcare safer for all.
In 2020, 75,870 women gave birth to 76,990 babies – 1,909 fewer women and 1,964 fewer babies than in 2019. The overall birth rate continued to fall, with only 54.4 babies born for every 1000 women #ccopmm
During 2021, an independent council called #ccopmm carefully reviewed health outcomes for Victoria’s mothers, babies and children in 2020. Here’s what they learned:
