I told Risper that looking back, our conversations on #CFOChat can be categorised into 3:
· The Income Statement Conversations (2020 - 2021): Characterised by a heavy drag on the revenue
· The Balance Sheet Conversations (2022 - early 2024): Characterised by ramp up of debt & heavy finance costs
· Pursuit for optimised triangulation (mid 2024 - HY2026): Revenue on the upswing, debt unwind & cash rich position
Does she feel she leaves the ship at a steady place?
A snippet from my exit interview & #CFOChat with EABL Plc's outgoing CFO & Head of Strategy, Risper Genga Ohaga.
Given the close proximity:
· Did her resignation have anything to do with the buyout of Diageo's entire interest by Japanese conglomerate, Asahi Group
· Was this a case of divergence in strategic outlook (given her role as Head of Strategy)?
Risper Genga Ohaga has resigned from the position of CFO & Executive Director at EABL Plc, a position she's held for 6 years.
She will be exiting at the end of June 2026.
One cannot fail to observe that the transition comes about a month after Asahi Group announced acquisition of Diageo's stake in entire interest in Diageo Kenya Ltd & in UDV Kenya (see quoted tweet).
Keen to see where she heads to & possible further reorganisation in the leadership of EABL Plc.
Undeniably one of the sharpest knives in the cutlery this one, we've had some pretty good interviews on #CFOChat
When EABL Plc released its HY2025 earnings 9 months ago, I sat down with Risper Ohaga on #CFOChat & asked her whether early redemption of the group's Kes 11.0 billion 12.25% Medium-Term Note was a card on the table (see quoted tweet).
The listed alcoholic beverage manufacturer now notifies note holders of its decision to exercise early redemption of the note effective Oct 29th, 2025.
The note will effectively be redeemed, & delisted, a year ahead of maturity.
In September last year, student accommodation focused developer, Acorn Holdings, executed early redemption of its Kes 5.7 billion note.
Still on the question of debt...
· Given the aggressive paying down of debt, would an early redemption of the 12.25% MTN be a card on the table?
· Risper says it's not the case at the moment but given much more favourable rates it certainly would be a viable route
· Given how high interest rates trended last year, the MTN's timing & pricing has proven to have been a pretty sound decision on management's part
