Options to settle more trade in local currencies rather than routing everything through the dollar. India already has rupee-based arrangements with partners including the UAE and Indonesia, while New Delhi is now pushing cheaper, faster cross-border payment connectivity using digital-currency and payment infrastructure. And then there is geopolitics. India can sit in the QUAD with America, Australia and Japan, while simultaneously sitting in BRICS with Russia, China, Brazil and the Global South.
