The finals and award ceremony of the 2026 Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreigners across the Globe—Storytelling Contest was held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (@sjtu1896) on July 15. Liu Jianqing, deputy director-general of the #CLEC, and Liu Weidong, vice-president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, attended the event.
The event gathered 50 contestants from more than 30 countries and regions across the globe, while some of the former Chinese Bridge participants were also invited. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the "Chinese Bridge" program. Since its inception, Chinese Bridge has reached more than 160 countries and regions worldwide, drawing a total of over 1.8 million young participants. It has evolved into a vital platform for linguistic communication, mutual understanding, trust, and cross-cultural exchange. The personal stories and tales of Sino-foreign friendship told by contestants in the Chinese language serve as the most vivid testament to cultural dialogue and integration across the world.

A delegation led by Assia Kaced, vice-rector of the University of Algiers 2 in Algeria, visited the #CLEC on July 14. Zhang Jinyao, vice-president of Northwest Normal University, accompanied the delegation during the visit. Yang Zhou, deputy director-general of the CLEC, held a meeting with the delegation.
The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on a series of cooperation initiatives, including dispatching Chinese language teachers and volunteers, training local Chinese language instructors, cultivating application-oriented Chinese language talents, and establishing HSK test centers in Algeria.
Both parties reached consensus on further carrying out pragmatic cooperation and promoting the high-quality development of Chinese language education in Algeria.

Centered on the theme "Innovation-Driven Curriculum Development & Teaching Capacity Advancement in International Chinese Language Education", the five-day seminar features a diverse range of training modules, including keynote speeches, special lectures, workshops, cultural experience sessions and instructional design practice, with renowned Chinese and overseas experts invited as instructors. A total of seventy young and middle-aged backbone educators from 37 universities nationwide are participating in the program.
Now in its 14th consecutive year, this advanced seminar focuses on disciplinary progress and academic frontiers of international Chinese language education. It supports the professional development and career growth of young and mid-career scholars, advancing high-quality growth of Chinese language education worldwide.

#有朋自远方来 #MeetAtCLEC: A delegation led by Sherzodkhon Kudratkhuja, rector of University of Journalism and Mass Communications of Uzbekistan, visited the #CLEC on March 24. Yu Tianqi, deputy director-general of the #CLEC, met with the delegation.
The discussions focused on launching a "Chinese + Media" specialized course, enhancing the training of local Chinese language teachers, developing online Chinese language teaching, and promoting youth exchanges between China and Uzbekistan. A specialized training program focusing on teachers' competencies under the guidance of "Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards for International Chinese Language Education" ("Standards") was held in Russia from Oct 27 to 31.
Jointly organized by the #CLEC, the Confucius Institute of the Russian State University for the Humanities in Moscow and the Confucius Classroom at the Academy of Oriental Languages and Culture "Confucius" (St Petersburg), the five-day program attracted more than 300 local Chinese language teachers from across #Russia both online and offline.
Distinguished guests, including Consul General of China in St Petersburg Luo Zhanhui, Minister-Counselor of Education at the Embassy of China in Russia Cao Shihai, Vice-Rectors from Russian State University for the Humanities Olga Pavlenko & Vera Zabotkina, addressed the opening ceremony.
Eight renowned experts from leading Chinese institutions, including Beijing Foreign Studies University (@bfsu_official), #BeijingLanguageandCultureUniversity, East China Normal University (@ECNUER), Nanjing University (@NJU1902), Central University of Finance and Economics (@CUFE1949), and Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (#FLTRP), delivered comprehensive lectures and practical guidance.
The sessions covered the detailed interpretation on the "Standards", comparisons between Chinese and European standards, instructional design strategies, classroom activities, as well as the effective teaching of Chinese characters and culture.

Comprising over 40 government officials, university and vocational college presidents, and experts in vocational and technical education from 11 Southeast Asian countries, the delegation also included representatives from UNESCO International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education (

), the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Technical Education Development, and various ministries from #Myanmar and #Cambodia. Yu Tianqi, deputy director-general of the #CLEC, met with the delegation and held discussions.
All parties agreed that #China and #SoutheastAsian countries share geographical and cultural ties, with cooperation across various sectors gaining momentum. The ninth World Conference on Sinology 2025 took place in #Shenzhen on June 6.
