PRESS STATEMENT ON ISSUES AFFECTING COUNTY GOVERNMENTS #COGPresser
The Council of Governors today, 10th March, 2021, held a Council meeting to deliberate on issues of common interest affecting County Governments.
County Govts have already embarked on implementation of the Summit resolutions agreed upon during the 5th Extra Ordinary Summit meeting held on 27th July 2020 to review the efficacy of the containment measures and the impact of the phased easing of the restrictions #COGPresser
In the last few days, we have seen an upward trajectory of COVID-19 cases with a new record high number of 688 positive cases reported on Saturday. So far 45 Counties have been affected by the pandemic. #COGPresser

✅Training and Sensitization of Healthcare workers
✔️38 Counties have trained an additional 846 healthcare workers bringing the total to 19,177.
✔️An additional 1247 community health volunteers have been sensitized bringing the total to 64,283. #COGPresser
26 Counties have complied with the President’s directive of attaining 300 bed capacity in the isolation facilities. The remaining 21 counties are working towards achieving the same by 22nd July, 2020. They are all at different levels of preparedness. #COGPresser
The Community Health Volunteers need to be supported to enhance outreach. The Country is open and movement is highly increased so response needs to be swift, timely and effective. #COGPresser

We also wish to thank the @KeTreasury for releasing Kshs.10.3b grants from the @WorldBankKenya to support various programmes in the counties. We further thank the @MOH_Kenya for releasing allowances for healthcare workers amounting to Kshs. 2.3b #COGPresser - @GovWOparanya
COG appreciates the support extended to Counties through the @kilimoKE by writing off 62B owed by Sugar Companies in various Counties.

We urge all the County Assemblies to expedite the approval of the budgets so that Counties can continue responding effectively to the Covid-19 pandemic. #COGPresser
All County Govts have finalized the budgeting process for FY 2020/21 and the budgets are at various stages of approval by respective County Assemblies. #COGPresser
In the past week, we have recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases. The National Government has reported that 91% of the cases are locally transmitted hence underscoring the need for strengthening community prevention and surveillance activities. #COGPresser
40 County Governments had reported on active quarantine facilities which have a total of 6,000 beds. 807 people were in these quarantine centers and will be discharged on different dates #KomeshaCorona #COGPresser

Counties have also committed to ensure that all the directives are complied with as per the Public Health Act and Rules together with the directives issued by the Ministry of Health. #KomeshaCorona #COGPresser
County Governments have relentlessly continued to implement the directives issued by the National Government through enforcing the curfew and the partial lockdown. #KomeshaCorona #COGPresser

The Devolution Conference 2020 is postponed to a later date this year. The new date shall be communicated. #COGPresser
FLOODS:
The current heavy rains in parts of the country has led to floods. Crops been wiped out raising the cost of food. Counties are in the process of relocating the affected population to higher grounds as they put in place food subsidies to be distributed. #COGPresser
County Governments have purchased water treatment chemicals for water companies and also shouldered the responsibility of providing clean drinking water to needy communities. County Governments are providing sanitizers to the public for free. #COGPresser #KomeshaCorona #COVID19
Measures have been put in place to ensure that the identified facilities are decontaminated and safe for the children’s use when schools re-open. Beddings will be provided for use & disposed off according to existing public health regulations. #KomeshaCorona #COGPresser #COVID19
Through County Emergency Response Teams, all 47 County Governments have identified additional facilities (mainly boarding secondary schools) to serve as quarantine within the counties. #KomeshaCorona #COGPresser #COVID19
