This week in #com270 I learned that before current protests by athletes like Colin Kaepernick, black women in professional sports like Wyomia Tyus were protesting unfair treatment and prejudice as early as the 1960s

While sports has always been intertwined with politics, with social media and it being more “acceptable” for athletes to voice their opinions they have elevated their status as public figures and have become even more prominent people in our society. #com270

In my sports communications class this week I learned about the sociological history of violence at soccer matches particularly the behavior called football hooliganism. Very intense emotions and pride that are woven into sports matches that can get ugly 👿⚽️🔥🙅🏻‍♂️ #Com270
