I watched #SpillWithBiggie and ... Yah! We have to talk.
Season 6 of #BBMzansi is lacking something. It is not boring per se but the cast is not giving much outside of mjolo — which is forced relationships, we can tell why they want to be couples. Individually majority of these housemates give nothing.
An accompanying show was a great idea. Love that.
But, we already have the Sunday Eviction show and numerous shows/podcasts with interviews with past HMs.
Spill With Biggie needs to be edgier. Have conversations that Smash can't have on the main Sunday show.
Unfortunately for me, the show seems too clean and like just another advert for the show. I don't see how that entices anyone who is not watching #BBMzansi to tune. It doesn't ignite the FOMO effect.
Visually, I was disappointed. The set looked ... Eh ... Let's be honest and say it ... Low budget. The TITLE sign on the table looked like a cardboard.
FOR ME, Spill With Biggie ought to SPILL. The topics can't be the host asking guests 'What's the pet name that annoys you'. She should asking ... 'Who is the most annoying Housemate from a viewer's perspective and how is that affecting their potential to win over fans'.
The show should be like a separate entity from the show. Have guests lay it on the floor, be it with praise or critique of these HMs and the show. Unfiltered.
Jabu and Seja watch the show, why are you asking them about their personal life likes or dislikes? Ask them about what the contestants are saying or doing.
Discuss the choices Biggie makes. Discuss what the guests' honest opinions are about the housemates.
Pretend that the show is not paid for by the channel and being screened on the channel. The audience these days wants raw commentary (and you can have that without being mean or disrespectful), that's why podcasts are thriving.
You had Jabu MacDonald on your show. This guy watches these shows religiously. Challenge him. Give him something to work with, not fluff. Your guests are supposed to be commentators, let them do that. Think of it like a post soccer match analysis then you will have great TV content.
In conclusion, I didn't finish the episode but I watched most of it because I got frustrated and changed the channel to the house channel.
The concept is great but if tonight is what we have to expect for every episode, then the show is unnecessary.
