We spent our rest day this week in Yellowstone National Park, immersed in the landscape in a way we couldn’t if we had been in one of the thousands of cars that passed us on the road. Our rest day in the park gave us a much-appreciated break from biking!

The climate riders spend a lot of time together, and after a year of pandemic, having guaranteed friends around all the time is something we’re very grateful for. Humans are meant to live in community, and this ride reminds us of how much we need each other.

We rode through a hail storm and then raced the storm into Butte. As we pedaled in the wind, we felt very small and completely at the climate's mercy. This experience reminds us how powerful the climate really is and how much its change will affect our lives.

Day 9 - Rode through Garnet Ghost town, prompting questions about the practice of mine restoration. Does restoring a mine site afterward make mining okay? And what are ways we can improve restoration practices to improve the process of recovery for the land?

Our first rest day was Missoula, Montana, where we met with Geoff from Adventure Cycling and Mason from Climate Smart, two organizations working on sustainability. Both reminded us of the importance of doing what we can to make changes in our local communities. #cscsclimateride

Day 8 was the last day before our rest day in Missoula, Montana. After 80 miles through the mountains, the riders arrived at camp feeling accomplished and ready for a change of pace the next day. #CSCSClimateRide
Yesterday took our riders over Lookout Pass and down the other side into Montana. The physical aspect of riding isn’t the only challenge our riders faceYesterday they dealt with four flat tires! Thankfully riders like Micah are skilled at patching tires!

On day 4 we mixed things up by splitting into three groups that each had something in common. Our task was to figure out what the commonality was before reaching our campsite. The exercise made the miles fly by and helped us to get to know each other better. #cscsclimateride
