@Roche #CT388 weight loss headline numbers look good but as always, the devil is in the details and as you comment they really didn't release much detail on safety (or weight loss for that matter). Yet their market cap appears to have gone up by about 9B based on this small phase 1B study.
All Roche said on tolerability was:
"The treatment was well tolerated, with mild to moderate gastrointestinal-related adverse events being the most common, consistent with the incretin class of medicines that CT-388 belongs to."
I read that as tolerability is the same or worse than Tirzepatide/Semaglutide. (in other words that isn't as good as $VKTX #VK2735)
On weight loss, as always cross study comparisons are not scientific but are inevitably made. Roche’s phase 1B study is not easily compared to Vikings Venture Phase 2 but comparisons will be made. (FWIW- Roche didn’t say what their study size was in the release but I believe N=64 based on a Co-pilot search. Vikings Venture study enrollment was 176.)
Weight loss for CT388 was 18.8% at 24 wks vs PBO vs VKTX VK2735 13.1% at 13 wks for the VK2735 dose of 15mg. Roche didn’t say anything about dosing in the press release. (Mufaso7 comment- weight loss from both drugs looks comparable but I’m betting that VK2735 would outperform CT388 head to head)
Roche said “all of CT-388 treated participants achieved a weight loss of more than 5%, while 70% achieved more than 15% weight loss and 45% achieved more than 20%” in 24 weeks. Viking said “Up to 88% of patients in VK2735 treatment groups achieved ≥10% weight loss” Again, tough comparison but I’ll take VK2735’s “88% losing >10% in 13 weeks” over CT388’s “70% losing 15% over 24 weeks” any day.
CT388 is a contender but advantage to VK2735 in obesity IMO.
