#ゲルディモンキー #GoeldisMonkey #Callimico #goeldii を #スケッチ #ドローイング。昨日の流れで、小型の #霊長類 を描こうと思った。種名リストと参考写真を見ながら、顔周りも含めて濃密な毛と濃い毛色が描き甲斐あるなぁ‥と、この種にしてみた。本物を見た事無いけどなかなか渋くて見てみたい‥
Small-bodied callitrichids are prey to wide variety of mammalian,avian&reptilian predators.A trait that may be related to anti-predator avoidance is #callimico presence in polyspecific associations w/2 species of#tamarins,primarily saddle-backed &red-bellied tamarins(here shown).
#Callimico females have 2 infants/year(a infant every 6 months). Compare this to the wild #orangutans I study who have on average one infant/7.8 years. Callimico mortality is high.Orangutan infant mortality occurs but is low.There are costs but also advantages to large body size!
The diversity of primate behavior is astounding. Compare the #orangutan adult male w/ the #callimico (Goeldi's monkey) male. Wild orangutan males have virtually no interaction w/ their offspring while the devoted callimico male begins to carry his offspring days after birth!

#Callimico males,fathers& non-fathers, show increase in prolactin after infant birth which probably helps promote infant caretaking behavior
In other words not only is #callimico dad a faithful mate but also a devastatingly good father who literally relieves mom of her baby burden
But what separates #callimico & #orangutan is not that one is small & one is big but that paternal investment is huge among #callimicos
For years #callimico taxonomy was controversial as they have 3 molars & produce a single infant like the cebids, unlike the callithricids.
