The #CancerWaitingTimes data for Wales published today shows that in December 2023, just 58% of patients started their first treatment within 62 days of being suspected of having cancer.

This is well below the target of 75%.
This is unacceptable and we must see action 👇

#CancerWaitingTimes for England out today show a familiar picture that every day patients are facing anxious waits for cancer tests and treatment. Every single cancer wait time target in December was missed.
For example, only 66% of people started treatment for cancer within two months of an urgent referral, missing the target of 85% once again. The government must take urgent action and provide additional investment for the NHS, coupled with reform to cancer services, so that cancer patients receive the level of care that they deserve.
And with our latest ‘Cancer in the UK’ report suggesting that progress in improving cancer survival is slowing, it is vital that cancer is a priority for all political parties in this election year. The challenges facing cancer are significant and complex, but we know what needs to be done to address them. With real political will, investment and reform, we can deliver long-term solutions to the long-term problems facing cancer research and care and help everyone lead longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer. https://t.co/723km7HeoI

This week's #CancerWaitingTimes show that once again many patients are waiting too long for cancer diagnosis and treatment ⏰
Look behind the figures in our blog: https://t.co/IfVc0RQoco
Today's #CancerWaitingTimes highlight that despite the best efforts of NHS staff, services are still struggling to reach key targets for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients in England. The figures show that, once again, every cancer wait time target in England has been missed. For example, in November 2023 only 65.2% of people starting treatment for cancer within 62-days of an urgent referral. If the target of 85% was met, 5,200 patients would have been seen on time.
Strike action has undoubtedly disrupted cancer services over the past year, and it's important that a resolution is found for all NHS staff groups. However, the poor performance we are seeing today is not new. The last time all targets for cancer waiting times were met was 2015.
Addressing these long-term problems will require the UK Government to deliver additional investment in NHS staff and diagnostic equipment, coupled with reform to cancer services. Without this strong leadership, thousands of cancer patients will continue face anxious waits for diagnosis and treatment each month and ultimately go without the level of care they deserve. https://t.co/AvnkV3fy9F

Today’s #CancerWaitingTimes statistics for Scotland are unacceptable.
Waiting to start cancer treatment is an incredibly worrying time - for both patients and their families. NHS staff continue to work incredibly hard but a lack of workforce funding and specialist equipment means the system simply cannot function.
I echo Dr Hume’s message to the Scottish Government. @ScotGov
Today's @P_H_S_Official cancer treatment waiting times statistics show that from July–September 2023 around 1,300 (28.0%) patients waited longer than 62 days to start treatment following an urgent suspected cancer referral. This is unacceptable.
