So I want to be super transparent about everything WE do. Almost like we are doing a documentary because I want each member of #CapNation to be along for the ride so we can experience this together. I did an interview w Emmy Ribero w The Gamecock Newspaper and I sent out a few letters to potential HUGE donors one of them being Darius Ruckers team, thanks to a lead I got from a #CapCrazy. Here is an example of the letters I will be sending out to business's and Foundations to obtain funds. Dear My name is Chris Dorsey, and I am the General Manager and Head Coach of the Senior American Legion Baseball program at Richland Post 215 in our downtown area. I am also the Co-owner of Big Red Box Dumpster Company, based in Columbia, SC. Additionally, with the support of #CapNation, I am leading an effort to restore Capital City Stadium to provide our baseball program and community with a dedicated ball field. Let me lead off by introducing Richland Baseball. As a non-profit organization, we offer free baseball opportunities to youth aged 13 to 19, focusing on community involvement and minimizing travel. Since partnering with the American Legion baseball program which was established in 1925, we've expanded from no players two years ago to 100 this year. Our mission goes beyond the game; we honor veterans, foster community pride, and build camaraderie. Our teams consist of local high school students, many from urban inner-city schools lacking adequate baseball programs. We are dedicated to offering these talented youths the coaching and support they need. We also strive to address disparities faced by minority players who often lack resources and opportunities. By supporting and recruiting these athletes, we aim to nurture their potential, providing professional coaching and creating pathways for success on and off the field. Our success relies heavily on the support of local businesses, foundations, and individual donors. Currently, we lack a dedicated field and must use high school facilities, which incurs additional costs and limits availability. We depend on the community's generosity to cover expenses such as uniforms, equipment, and field rentals. Now, on to our plan to save Capital City Stadium! Our city and Richland County currently lack a regulation baseball field. The historic Capital City Baseball Stadium, opened in 1927, has fallen into disrepair and needs restoration. Revitalizing this venue could benefit not only our team but the entire community, as it could host Legion Baseball, college games, travel ball, concerts, and other events. The community’s support which has morphed into being nicknamed #Capnation has been overwhelming (see our Facebook group, Save Capital City Stadium). I also had a productive meeting with Mayor Rickenmann on 8-7-24 who has given his blessing for this initiative. I am eager to lead this effort and believe that together, we can restore Capital City Stadium for our community and future generations of baseball players but we can't do it with out your support.
