The thing with backyards is they go seemingly forever and then suddenly end. Scott Snell completed the 61st yard. Jennifer Russo did not complete the 61st yard within time and is credited with 60 yards. Scott wins the @capitalbackyard; assist to Jennifer.

Congratulations do Steve Slaby for his win at the #CapitalBackyardUltra with 57 yards (237.49 miles/382.29 km), outlasting Chris Roberts who earned a strong Assist. Slaby will now complete at Big Dogs Backyard Ultra this Fall. He was on the US 24 Hour Natl Team in 2017 and 2019.

Chris Roberts crossed the start line to begin the 57th yard, stopped, shook hands with Steve Slaby, then dropped. Steve has to complete the yard within the hour to win the #CapitalBackyardUltra.
After two days of rain and temperatures that never got above the mid-50s (but did go well below), today is very sunny and low-70s. The first order of business for both runners after the 55th yard is ice-filled bandanas. #CapitalBackyardUltra
The cheerleaders formally have changed their name to the backyard bullies (but they only are mean if a runner is trying to quit). There needs to be a runner support competition between them and the jeerleaders. #CapitalBackyardUltra #bigdogultra
