We're not afraid of commitment 💍🔭
Yes, NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory's LSST is a 10-year commitment! But why?
To truly #CaptureTheCosmos, we need to balance both "depth" and "time." Ten years is what we need to achieve both 🌌⏱️

The NSF-DOE @VRubinObs's unique design combines enormous light-collecting power, rapid sky-scanning capability & a wide field of view, allowing the Legacy Survey of Space and Time to study the accelerating expansion of the universe. 🔭🌌 https://t.co/llys45pBoJ

Sky survey progression 🌌
@VRubinObs has begun its 10 year timelapse to #CaptureTheCosmos! This sequence shows how the quality of ground-based sky surveys has improved over time, from the Digitized Sky Survey II in 1994 to Rubin today.

Stars, camera, action! 🌌 📸 🎬
We're celebrating the official start of @VRubinObs's ultra-high-definition 10-year time-lapse of the universe, which will be the most comprehensive cinematic record to date! #CaptureTheCosmos with us: https://t.co/AcPpRyrxhM
It’s #NationalCameraDay – commemorating the invention of the camera and the art of photography! 📷
SLAC built the world’s largest digital camera, and we can’t wait to see how it will #CaptureTheCosmos with @VRubinObs.
Happy June Solstice! ☀️❄️ The north gets summer, but it's the winter solstice at NSF-DOE Rubin Observatory in Chile & our longest night. More dark hours mean more time to #CaptureTheCosmos!
If you're in the north, enjoy the sun! For us, we'll be embracing the darkness 🔭

Longer nights means more time for the stars 🌟
As we get closer to winter in the southern hemisphere, sunset gets earlier.
But that's good news for ground-based astronomy observatories like NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory, because longer nights mean more time to #CaptureTheCosmos!
To #CaptureTheCosmos, there’s bound to be a lot of data.
Up to 10 terabytes every night. For 10 years.
@VRubinObs has three data facilities to make it possible: one in France, one in the U.K., and the U.S. Data Facility here at SLAC!
How will @VRubinObs #CaptureTheCosmos?
Collecting about 10 TeraBytes of raw data every night, over 10 years. That’s more than all previous astronomical surveys combined.

Happy March equinox! ☀️
At NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory in Chile, this day marks the beginning of autumn. From here on out, daylight hours in the southern hemisphere will shrink until the June solstice, meaning longer nights and more time to #CaptureTheCosmos 🌌

The sky is screaming, and now we can hear it better 🔭
800,000 alerts on night one... seven million per night by year's end. The universe is trying to tell us something.

Alerts incoming❗
The first scientific alerts from @VRubinObs have begun and they are all coming to SLAC, home of the U.S. Data Facility.
This milestone helps us #CaptureTheCosmos even before the 10-year survey of the night sky begins: https://t.co/QEGZg8EUow

Even the world’s largest digital camera has heart eyes sometimes… 😍
Our LSST Camera produced some love-ly distortions during the early optical testing of its mirrors. All part of the process to #CaptureTheCosmos for you. Happy Valentine's Day! 📷 🌌 ❤️

Happy New Year!
Our New Year's resolution? To #CaptureTheCosmos💥
2026 will see the start of the 10-year Legacy Survey of Space and Time! Over the next decade, NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory will build the most complete map & detailed time-lapse movie of the Southern sky ever made🔭
Time after timelapse...
We'll never get enough of the timelapse showing our camera built and installed in the NSF-DOE @VRubinObs – a milestone that brought us one step closer to starting the Legacy Survey of Space and Time that will #CaptureTheCosmos over the next decade.
Once the camera proved it could see the sky? It was almost time to show the world what Rubin could do 🌌 #RubinRecap2025 #CaptureTheCosmos
