Every year, millions head to the Himalayas seeking breathtaking views. But too often, the mountains are left carrying the weight of our waste.
Instead of waiting for someone else to clean up, Pradeep Sangwan and the Healing Himalayas Foundation launched #CarryMeBack, encouraging every traveller to bring back at least 2.5 kg of waste from the Kedarnath trail.
What happened next was proof that change doesn't always need big budgets or big promises. In just 10 days, hundreds of people came together to remove over 1,000 kg of waste from the route.

Protecting the Himalayas is everyone’s responsibility. The #CarryMeBack movement is simple whatever you bring to the mountains, take it back with you. Authorities can support it with awareness drives, designated collection points, refundable deposits on plastic bottles, and strict penalties for littering. But ultimately, the biggest change will come when every pilgrim treats the Himalayas with the same respect they show inside the temple.
