🇺🇸 American Artists CHIAOZZA Dedicate Their Work to Maria Prymachenko The New York-based artistic duo #CHIAOZZA (artists Adam Frezza and Terri Chiao) is presenting its first project in #Ukraine: installations inspired by Maria Prymachenko's work. The work consists of seven inflatable sculptures ranging from 3 to 7 meters in height. These reinterpret well-known elements from #Prymachenko’s paintings: a red flower, a pea pod, a tree, a sunflower, a bird, a blue beast, and a yellow beast. 🗨️ “We support the cultural mission of Ukraine WOW and are deeply inspired by the work of Maria Prymachenko. It was a great honor and joy for us to study her art and help share her unique vision with a broad, contemporary audience. We are thrilled that this installation will travel the world, introducing people to this important artist,” said CHIAOZZA. From September 8 to 21, the inflatable sculptures based on the famous #Ukrainian artist's work will be on display at Kontraktova Square in #Kyiv. The world of fabulous beasts and flowers. Folkloric motives that create parallel reality - a reality where evil, transformed into chimerical creatures, loses its power. That's the world Maria #Prymachenko's paintings open to us. A Ukrainian folk artist living her whole life in a picturesque Ukrainian village was admired by Pablo Picasso. Her paintings were exhibited in Paris in 1937, and then in other European cities. Maria Prymachenko started painting when she was 17 years old. She recalled: "It all started this way: I was herding geese near the house, above the river, on a flowery meadow. On the ground, I was drawing all the flowers I'd ever seen. And then I noticed bluish clay. I collected it and painted our house." Prymachenko didn't get a formal education, but studied at the School of Folk Artists. She developed her own recognizable style. During her life (1909-1997) she witnessed dramatic pages of history, which was sublimated in her unique creative work. After the beginning of the full-scale invasion, her art has seen a new wave of interest worldwide. In May 2022, the artist's works became part of the main program of the Venice Biennale, and the world's leading media, from The Guardian to The Times, wrote about her. Unfortunate circumstances awaken the interest. The Russian occupiers destroyed the museum in Ivankovo, where part of the heritage of the artist was kept.
