Answer to Tuesday's Tell The Maven: @NYRangers post-WW2 system of alternating goalies #ChuckRayner and #JimHenry every 3d shift was stopped by Toronto boss #ConnSmythe. "Conn had great power in the NHL," Rayner told me. "He demanded it be stopped. The owners went along with him."

Tuesday's Tell The Maven: The post-WW2 @NYRangers coach #FrankBoucher alternated goalies #ChuckRayner and #JimHenry every 4th shift for a short time. Why was the system stopped and who, specifically, ordered it stopped? (HINT: It wasn't Red Dutton or General John Reed Kilpatrick)

@Dave_Stubbs @MatthewBlittner @NHLBruins @NHL @CanadiensMTL Dave; Loved Sugar Jim. As a @NYRangers coach #FrankBoucher briefly changed goalies -- Henry to #ChuckRayner and then to Henry, as he changed lines. 2 fine goalies but plan didn't work. Once, Charlie had to loan Jim his goalie stick. They ran resort, Hockey Haven, near Kenora.

The biggest MSG brawl was ignited when @NYRangers BryanHextall and CalGardner creamed #KenReardon at center ice. Every player on each team was involved including goalie #ChuckRayner of R's and #BillDurnan swinging their big sticks. Wild on top of wild! Kudos to the quick guesses.

Answer to Monday Tell The Maven. Early 1950s, @NYRangers and @DetroitRedWings stuck on train in blizzard. MSG fans told to wait. Bunch of Met Leaguers recruited from stands. Tremendous game. Rangers-Wings start 10:30 p,m. Rangers win 1-0. #ChuckRayner's finest hour. Nobody left.

@GGrimm231 @mreteacher @NYRangers Among the @NYRangers goalies I've seen going back to #SugarJimHenry, #ChuckRayner did a better "splits" than anyone. He was such a good skater, coach Boucher would use him on the power play; putting him up hear the enemy blue line. In those days it was legal. Charlie, The Best!
