Farmers, market associations, food businesses, households, schools, government, waste managers, CSOs, community leaders and young innovators all have a role to play.

Day 18 — Keep Food Waste Out of Drains
Food waste thrown into drainage channels doesn't simply disappear.
It can mix with other waste, contribute to blocked drains & create dirty environments
Clean communities require responsible waste habits.

Day 17 — Respect the Farmer
Every plate of food has a story
A farmer planted it. Someone harvested it. Someone transported it. Someone sold it. Someone prepared it. Someone served it.
When we waste food, we waste the work behind it.

Day 13 — Share Safe Surplus
Sometimes food becomes waste simply because there is more than we need.
If food is safe and still fit for consumption, don't make the bin its first destination.
Good food deserves a second chance.

You don't need a large farm to start composting.
You can start small at home.
Small household actions can become community habits.

Day 10 — Give Peels a Purpose
We often call it rubbish cos we don't know what else to call it -
Banana peels
Yam peels
Vegetable scraps
Fruit waste.
The question isn't always, “Where can I throw this?”
Sometimes, it's “What can this become?”

Caption (10:00am) :
Not all litter is plastic.
Food waste clogs our bins, drains and dumpsites, and it releases methane as it rots.
This #WorldCleanupDay, let's go from clean plates to clean cities. 🌍

Day 7 — Food Waste Is Money Waste
Food waste is not just an environmental problem.
It is money, labour, water, energy, and resources going to waste.
When we waste food, we waste much more than food.
Action: Waste less. Save more.

Day 6 — Peels Can Be Resources
That yam or banana peel is not necessarily rubbish.
That plantain peel, vegetable scrap, or fruit waste may still have a purpose.
Before calling something “waste,” ask whether it can become a resource.

Start where you are

Day 2 — Think Before You Throw
Before you throw that leftover rice away, ask: Can I eat it? Save it? Share it? Repurpose it? Compost it?
