#ClutterInChurches I felt conflicted about this arrangement in the N transept of Exeter cathedral. It was being used for storage of essential items like chairs, & in front, there were bespoke screens showing what is in the transept - but there is no access to the real thing!

#ClutterInChurches #EcclesiasticalGatesUnderStrain I enjoyed the NGS open day at Bradfield College enormously, but even in their well kept chapel, there was a small enclave of clutter. The gates with their carved key emblem were doing their level best to maintain order! 🗝️🗝️

#ClutterInChurches #OgeeLove The ambulatory at the East end of Great Malvern Priory, catching a glimpse of one of Tom Denny's 2 fabulous Millennium windows. Tucked in by the screen, neatly folded tables, carefully obscured by curtains, but visible to me in the chapel!

#Woodensday & #ClutterInChurches in St Bartholomew's, Yarnton. On my 1st visit, I was shocked by the cluttered state of the Spencer Chapel. This time, it seemed that uniting the grandiose monuments with the children's corner undercut the prestige of the powerful rather well.

For @TheHistoryMouse I present from St Mary's Haddenham, a painful example of #ClutterInChurches. I believe that is a plastic curtain rail tacked onto a beautiful historic wooden screen. Why would anyone think that was a good idea? *Runs screaming from the chapel*. #Woodensday

#FontsOnFriday at the church of St Peter & St Paul, Stokenchurch, Bucks. Octagonal font with moulded rim, probably C13th, altered C15-C16th (Historic England, Pevsner doesn't mention it). And a Rood example of #ClutterInChurches combined with ecclesiastical wiring of concern. 🐭
