@TrishRLee Thank you, Trish 🙌💗
Honestly, it baffles me how many people talk “alignment”…but forget to drink water, sleep, self-reflect or breathe for more than 2 seconds🤣
We’re still mammals, not apps 🤷🏻♀️💻🌍 #CoachingBasics 😉
I’ve watched a lot of basketball over my years…I’m still amazed how many coaches don’t know how to break a defensive press #coachingbasics

As professional coaches, it helps to keep in mind that we are not 'experts' or subject-matter specialists in the lives & works of our clients.
The coaching client is the expert in their own issues.
#TIP: Listen & listen some more with your whole being.
#Presence
#CoachingBasics
One of the pillars of effective coaching is #trust.
Trust yourself as a coach to be of service to your client.
Trust the client to have answers within.
#CoachingBasics
Coaching is a service, first and foremost.
So, does that mean #coaches are professional servants?
It means that our work is in service of the coaching client.
The client sets the agenda.
We accompany them on their journey & help heighten their #awareness.
#CoachingBasics
Reflective practice & feedback can be an awesome gift after a break.
Some of my coaching clients only wanted to do reflective work during holiday season coaching.
A question that brought up a lot has been this: "What are you noticing about yourself right now?"
#CoachingBasics
Coaches are not therapists or psychologists.
These are all different modalities focusing on different developmental areas.
#Coaching starts from the premise that the client is NOT a patient who is sick or needs fixing.
The best performers often have coaches.
#CoachingBasics
Human beings are multifaceted, complex, & amazingly beautiful beings.
We can never really say we have figured everything there us to know about us humans.
Now you know why coaching is here to stay.

How much of a client's story do you need to know to be an effective coach?
While knowing a lot about the client helps the coach understand the context better & strengthens rapport, there's an advantage in not knowing all about your client.
Stay open & curious.
#CoachingBasics
It helps to make an effort to #prioritize our clients.
Earlier, I rescheduled 2 sessions with a client.
While she accepted my reasons (international travel) she also gave me straight feedback:
"I feel like I'm low on your priorities coach".
TIP: Communicate early.
#CoachingBasics
As a conscientious #coach, watch that you do not treat your coaching clients as numbers on a spreadsheet.
It helps to genuinely #connect & stay in touch with your coachees (don't like that term).
#Empathy
#Compassion
#Attunement
#CoachingBasics
Coaching is a sacred service in support if another.
It requires empathy, compassion, deep #listening & attunement to the client.
Great listeners make good coaches.
Not-so-good listeners... well, must learn to listen better, right?
#CoachingBasics
As coaches we must take extra care to co-create 'safety & ease of engagement' with & for our coaching client.
The #coaching space is a #sacredcontainer for someone to often explore subjects very personal to them.
It is a privilege to coach someone.
#CoachingBasics
Listen. Listen. Listen.
Listen with your whole being.
What is not being said or addressed in the session?
It helps to ask open-ended questions, & not invite a yes or no response.
#connect
#CoachingBasics
Its always about the client.
Always.
Watch out for the #CoachingItch where you strongly feel the need to share your examples & stories triggered by what the coachee is working on.
Minimize or avoid your own sharing. It's about the client.
It's their time.
Always.
#CoachingBasics
Since #coaching is service to humanity, & since we agree that great coaching has the power to positively transform our our shared world, THEN it follows that coaches must take good care of themselves first. So, what's the best version of yourself to serve with?
#CoachingBasics
As a coach, it helps to dress decently & look the part. Ideally, regard it as a business meeting. Dress the part.
Never take your client for granted.
Being professional shows respect.
It says 'I take this seriously'.
#CoachingBasics
One important personal positioning - or stance - in coaching is to be a willing learner at all times. This requires a mindset - & a #heartset - of deep #humility.
As coaches, we may be modeling potentially desirable behaviors or ways of being humane...
#StayHumble
#CoachingBasics
How I feel inside as a #coach or #mentor is super important.
I compromise the quality of my coaching #service to my client when my attention is split between them & my wrestling withy own stuff.
Being available is more than physical presence.
It is also #focus.
#CoachingBasics
As coaches, we must always be ethical, professional, fully present & compassionate.
After all, coaching is a service profession.
Great coaches know that they are in the service of the client.
