I've been told how bad #cocklebur used to be, but I've never seen a mess first-hand... until this weekend. Many options in traited soybean, but conventional is tricky. ALS's work, but resistance concerns. "Breaking Basagran" (new TV series?) out of the vault works well!

When did you last venture into a semi forest and encounter these common Cockleburs on your clothes . What you call them locally.? #Cocklebur #plants #nature #life

A big SORRY, even if it's late by two decades, to my school friends who never suspected me of sticking these in their hair. Removing them, as I learnt myself, wasn't totally painless. #Cocklebur

Cocklebur plants grow prickly fruits that cling to clothes and fur. Although they might look and taste like sunflower seeds, cocklebur seeds can cause stomach pain, vomiting, seizures, and even severe liver injury. Learn more: https://t.co/IxLWIbyt2s #PreventPoison #cocklebur

Moonlit night in the Forest of Exozoochory...
8x lateral view across fruit of #Cocklebur (#Xanthium strumarium) highlighting hooked prickles adapted for attachment to animal fur or feathers. #Exozoochory is technical term for #SeedDispersal by attachment to “outside” of animals.

For my money, the dry fruits of #Xanthium strumarium (#cocklebur) are one of best in-class demos for adhesive or #exozoochoric #SeedDispersal. Unlike burdock (Arctium) which tends to break into irritating prickly bits, these fruits hold together- and look at those fabulous hooks!

An interesting weed I rarely see, I cannot even remember what the flowers look like. #Cocklebur (#Xanthium strumarium)
