This gold aureus shows the head of Rome’s first emperor Augustus, for whom the month of August was named. It was called Sextilis in the original Roman calendar and was changed in 8 BCE to honour the new emperor.

This orrery is made by William and Samuel Jones of London, 1794.
This silver pendant, in the shape of Mjolnir, the hammer welded by the Norse god Thor, was found at the campsite. It may have brought protection to one of the Viking warriors.

For this week’s #CollectionsfromTheCollection we’re excited to share this amazing find deposited with the museum this month by @allenarchaeo. It’s a 4th century head pot from the Roman settlement at Bourne. It’s a rare female form and we’re looking forward to reconstructing her!
Happy Easter! For centuries Easter has marked a period of celebration both as a religious festival& cultural holiday. This Limoges-style figure of Christ dates from the 13th century and was excavated from Spencer Street, Lincoln, in the 1930s. #CollectionsFromTheCollection
