This week we have a silver host box from the Dominican Order, Galway by Mark Fallon. Lid is inscribed ‘Pray for Mr. John Lynch of Burdox, his wife and posterity who made a present to both his sisters Brigett and Ann Lynch of this hoast box Anno Doni 1733’

This week we have a funeral pall donated to the Museum by the Dominican Sisters, Galway in 2011. The black velvet pall which dates from the late 1600s/early 1700s was used up until the 1960s to cover the coffins of the sisters during funeral ceremonies.

This week we have a writing desk which belonged to Sr Mary Aloysius Doyle (1820-1908) who nursed in the Crimean War with Florence Nightingale. The desk was presented to Sr Mary on the celebration of the golden jubilee of her profession.

This week we have a cotton doll’s dress made from off-cuts of material from the Galway Textile Printers Ltd., otherwise known as the Cotton Factory. The factory was opened on Sandy Rd., Galway in 1958. All dyes and colours were mixed on site.

This week we have rosary beads from Galway. The use of beads to pray has been around for centuries & is common to different religions. These rosary beads date to the 18th-19th centuries & are made from silver &/or fruit stones, wood & mother of pearl.

This week we have a watercolour painting by Irish landscape painter Cecilia Margaret Nairn (neé) Campbell (1791-1857) - 'Ruins of Templeland Castle, Co. Galway' which is actually Terryland Castle, Galway; a fortified house, 3 storeys high with an attic.

This week we have a window spandrel from a building in Middle St., Galway. It is decorated with carvings of a piper dressed in robes, foliage & a dog, either dancing or begging. Originally, the spandrel was probably painted to show the carved characters.
