We're in the middle of a classic mountain wave, downsloping wind event. Again. This event is similar to the one we experienced a few weeks ago. Not all events are exactly the same. Different areas of the foothills, and I-25 corridor have been impacted more violently than with the last event. Lots of power outages in Douglas and El Paso County. Many trees and power lines down as the cold front barreled over the mountains early this morning and switched the wind direction out of the west. One noticeable difference with this wind event is that this is what we call a "bora" wind event. I've told you guys in the past that downsloping westerly winds off the mountains and foothills is a warming and drying wind. That wind compresses as it is forced down off the mountain. So, under normal circumstances, when downsloping westerly winds come off the mountains, it *feels* warmer. In this case, the wind does not feel warmer even though theoretically it's supposed to, and that's because of the passing cold front. A downsloping wind that *should* feel warmer due to compressional heating but isn't and is colder is called a *bora wind* Who cares tho right? We're all miserable. This sucks. Blows? Whatever. K bye. #COwx #WYwx #BoraWind #MountainWave #WeatherScience
