During the winter months, #CommonToads do not fully hibernate but brumate like other #amphibians.
They spend most of their time burrowed in mud or compost to conserve energy, and like the common frog, will emerge in milder spells to forage.

Exciting news! whilst undertaking #amphibian survey training workshops at restored ponds by #DiscoveringDewponds, #greatcrestednewts were observed at 5 ponds, #smoothnewts observed at 6 & #palmatenewts at 2.

It's the breeding season for #CommonToads now at the @GreatFen. Today, I had to assist the road crossing of a pair of these amorous #amphibians; the male was on top, and holding on tightly! Hopefully he and the female will be making good use of the new #ponds we have created.
