We have skilled carpenters across different ubukinjiro producing high-quality wooden furniture. Yet, i have noticed that many our homes, offices, government institutions and parastatals continue to furnish their offices with furniture imported from countries such as Turkey and China. If we genuinely want to promote #MadeInRwanda, our own homes and institutions should lead by example by creating a reliable market for local manufacturers. If our locally produced furniture does not yet meet the required standards, then the institutions responsible for quality assurance and enterprise development should work with these artisans to help them improve, add value and become more competitive. We also need to walk the talk, significant public resources have been invested in TVETs and polytechnics to equip young people with practical skills. Failing to purchase products made by graduates and artisans from these institutions undermines that investment and does a disservice to our nation’s industrialization agenda. Supporting local production is not just about procurement it is about creating jobs, strengthening local industries, retaining value within our economy and demonstrating confidence in Rwanda’s own talent and craftsmanship. #MadeInRwanda
