Amazon MGM, if you really want to win Stargate fans back, take the courage to admit you made a mistake about cancelling Martin Gero’s Stargate series and then take a leaf out of Sci-Fi’s playbook from 2003. This announcement for the return of Stargate SG-1 Season 7 was genius because it wasn’t just an announcement to the fans, it was an announcement about the fans. Sci-Fi, MGM, Producers & Michael Shanks, himself, had listened. They had seen the letters, the campaigns and the passion. And they made that connection part of the story:“Please bring back Michael Shanks… SAVE DANIEL JACKSON!!!” Then came the perfect response: “Consider it done.” That was brilliant fan engagement before “fan engagement” became a corporate buzzword. It told viewers: we heard you, you mattered, and your voices made a difference. Amazon MGM has an opportunity to do exactly the same thing today. Acknowledge the mistake.
