Dang. In this tweet which is part of a thread in which I warn not to confuse ‘#’ (number/hash sign, also known as the “pound sign” — as in pound avoirdupois) with ‘♯’ (sharp), I used ‘₤’, which is the lira sign, when I meant ‘£’, which is the pound (currency) sign. #ContextClub
@rerarom Because ‘#’ has nothing to do with the sharp sign from music. It derives from a highly stylized form of “lb”, the abbreviation of the pound (unit of weight, — not to be confused with the pound unit of currency which is stylized ‘₤’, yes it's all very confusing).
