#Exercise immediately impacts how your arteries work. Short bursts of exercise cause quick changes in artery function. But over time, repeated workouts lead to longer-lasting improvements in artery function and even structural remodeling of the arteries. https://t.co/nJ9O2hcbV0

#walking boosts circulation and creativity while reducing stress and stimulating BDNF ('MiracleGro' for the brain!). To increase the pleasure of your walk, first do a minute + of the Cross Crawl ("march" in place, touching hand to opposite knee).#BrainGym #ContralateralMovement

We all know the importance of eye-hand coordination, but did you know that eye-foot coordination, and arm-leg coordination, is equally vital? #Crawling #Walking #ContralateralMovement
How about a big round of applause for this little guy, who has unlocked a new developmental milestone.
Between 4-8 months of age, babies discover their feet. While laying on their backs, babies not only begin to watch and coordinate the movement of their feet, but begin reaching for them with their hands - and exploring them with their mouths. (Babies are flexible like that.)
What you’re seeing here also involves the engagement of abdominal core muscles and is a sign that baby is soon to begin rolling and crawling. So get ready, mom and dad, this little one is about to go mobile.
Did your baby ever put their feet in their mouth?

This little one has her own motor going, using reciprocal arm swing to create a steady, rhythmic walk (inhibited only a little by the pacifier she holds). She is clear that she doesn't need to hold Dad's hand at the moment. #ContralateralMovement is a super nutrient!
If your toddler’s favorite word is “NO,” rest assured that you’re in good company.
After a period of intense brain, language, motor, and skill development (that remains ongoing), toddlers have transformed from heavily-reliant newborns into something altogether different: independent little people with their own thoughts and desires - and the tools to pursue them independently.
This routinely leads to a phase full of “NOs” and “I DO ITs” as they seek to blaze their own trails.
The transition can be frustrating for both parents and child.
Your toddler’s growing desire for independence may put them into conflict with your well-founded insistence, for example, that they not step into traffic or that they they eat something other than cookies.
Meanwhile they themselves can become easily frustrated when their desires and still-emerging skills don’t quite align.
Tantrums can result. Danger can be real.
For these reasons, your toddler requires heaping scoops of patience and understanding - not to mention your extra-vigilant supervision.
This period is sometimes referred to as the “Terrible Twos.” But that’s really not the right way to look at it.
Take the time to marvel at your child’s growing knowledge, abilities, and independence - and know that this phase doesn’t last forever.
Most importantly, remember that your toddler’s NOs are not expressions of defiance - but a marker of their blossoming into independent thought and activity.

Hand-eye coordination is a sphere, not a flat plane. Let children play, climb, cook, walk,...and notice their range of hand-eye coordination—their context for #reading. If you only have 60 sec, let them do #BrainGym #CrossCrawl and #Lazy8s before they read. #ContralateralMovement
Some of our favorite #CrossCrawl variations: Circles, the Knee High, the Monkey, the Hopscotch, Scissors, Tick-Tock Swing, the Flying X—such a quick and joyful way to get active while exploring balance, mobility, and proprioception! #BrainGym #MovetoLearn #ContralateralMovement
#ContralateralMovement is a super nutrient for our #Wellbeing —walking, crawling, running, swimming, & the #BrainGym Cross Crawl—all activate reciprocal arm & leg motion, circulation of blood, lymph, & more. Enjoy a dancey Cross Crawl for aerobic benefit! #MovetoLearn #selfcare
Before academics, let’s give children the physical maps—the movement patterns—for bilateral coordination and contralateral movement. Even a few minutes of these can make an empowering difference. #BrainGym #ContralateralMovement #LengtheningActivities #TeachforWellBeing
I'm working on a presentation write-up this morning, so skipping up and down the hallway to this. (For the SkipAcross, each hand alternately lifts to the visual midpoint at eye level.) #BrainGym #SkipAcross #MovetoLearn #ContralateralMovement https://t.co/15FDQgK7N2
