When the Prophet ﷺ married, there was wisdom in each marriage. We also see incredible wisdom in who he didn't marry. He did not marry a woman from the Ansar (Muslims in Medina) bc the practice of polygamy was found distasteful in their community & he respected it. #ConvertCare

If you are mentoring a convert of the opposite gender, remove the potential in your mind for them to be a potential spouse. This will remove the risk of spiritual abuse by weaponizing Quran/Sunnah to mislead them into secret, illegal marriages. Dr. @tamaralgray #ConvertCare

If you have a convert friend who has a dog, advise them to study the Maliki madhab, even though the Maliki madhab doesn't encourage dogs to be in the house. This is bc for Malikis dogs are not considered nijasa. Also advise a separate prayer space. #ConvertCare Dr. @tamaralgray

When there is a separate space for women in mosques, there is architectural messaging here which signals the exclusion of women and convert women oftentimes become unmosqued and feel excluded from the Muslim community. Dr. @tamaralgray #ConvertCare #ProjectLina @SideEntrance

Very often, non-converts expect to have utilitarian marriages and not fun marriages. Converts come into the idea of marriage expecting to have fun & enjoyment. This is something to consider as converts approach intercultural marriages. Dr. @tamaralgray #ConvertCare #ProjectLina

Those who convert to Islam and aren't married are often encouraged to quickly get married, whether they're ready or not. Advice for converts: if you wouldn't marry the person before being Muslim, don't marry them after - or take time to think. #ConvertCare with Dr. @tamaralgray

Let's not have ownership of our converts or infantilize them. Don't refer to them as "my converts" or "your converts," etc. They're people! You can, however, help them find friends & spiritual companions to walk on a journey together. Dr. @tamaralgray #ConvertCare #ProjectLina
