The #CORALS2019 research talks about their 4 projects were brilliant: Bioacoustics and Localization of #HumpbackWhales, Impacts to Hawaiian #CoralReefs, Microbiome Role in #EelgrassWastingDisease, and Measuring #OceanAcidification Damage on Pteropod Shells
Here’s to a fantastic semester, #CORALS2019! It was truly a pleasure working alongside such bright, kind students, @phoebe_dawkins, @DrewHarvell, and @BladerunnerChas. I know the world’s in good hands with these future scientists/environmentalists @CornellCALS @MarineBiol_FHL

Best day ever. We counted 481 adult Pisaster ochraceous at one of our sites on Orcas Island, #SanJuanIslands and no #seastarwasting. TONS of big orange stars, which have been rare after the epidemic. Kudos #CORALS2019 @CornellCALS @edyong209 @SeaDocSociety

🚨 Rad scientists alert! 🚨#CORALS2019 students have been busy learning about temperate marine inverts like these dorid #nudibranchs from experts @phoebe_dawkins and @DrewHarvell. Check out that great illustration by @KatieLee7438! I’d say it’s a perfect match, wouldn’t you?

#WormDay @MarineBiol_FHL. Of the 8 families seen by #CORALS2019 @cornellCALS the Nereid is the video star...so many #parapodia
Like this #flatworm (P. oligoglena), #CORALS2019 students wave farewell to HI! After weeks of whale #bioacoustics, #coralsurveys, and #marineinverts, we’re off to @MarineBiol_FHL for some temperate inverts and #eelgrass. @phoebe_dawkins @KatieLee7438 @clariengjiaqi @jackpnovak
Every bit matters. #CORALS2019 beach cleanup was a stark reminder to reduce our use of #singleuseplastics. While cleanups don’t target the root cause of #marinepollution, they still make a difference. #smallsteps #bigimpact #oceanoptimism @CornellCALS @engagedcornell (1/2)
Ever seen students buzzing with excitement after reading a book? That’s how #CORALS2019 students were after reading @DrewHarvell’s #OceanOutbreak! It’s a wake up call to act now and save our seas #marinedisease #oneheath #nobluenogreen
Putting #OceanOutbreak to work. Advance copies arrived for #OceanHealth discussion in Hawaii with #CORALS2019 students. Happy they liked it and are fired up to save #ouroceans with @o_jgraham @KatieLee7438 @clariengjiaqi @CornellCALS @ucpress @jackpnovak

Did you know flip flops are great proxies for #coral? Our #corals2019 students practice methods for #coral, #urchin, and #fish surveys that start tomorrow!

It was amazing how many invertebrates we got to see, especially all of the beautiful flatworms! #Platyhelminthes #CORALS2019
#Blaschkamatch from Big Island Hawaii #Tidepool. Thanks to @theRedShrimp for verifying ID of this cool Notaspidean #mollusc as Berthellina delicata (in glass and alive). #CORALS2019 @CornellCALS seeing #InvertebrateBiodiversity from flatworms to echinoderms. #SeaofGlass

Favorite #spineless critters from Big Island tidepools today with #CORALS2019! An unidentified notaspidean mollusc and a baby banded urchin...plus 3 different flatworm species and a couple of seahares (anaspideans)...@cornellCALS

#corals2019 got their feet wet finding marine inverts today. Lucky us, we had help from @DrewHarvell and @BladerunnerChas identifying flatworms, zooanthids and more! #marineinverts #fieldSTEM

Singing #humpbacks are male and often solo, but can also be courting females. For the next few days, #corals2019 visually and acoustically track #whales with the Hawaiian Marine Mammal Consortium and #wavegliders

“E ola ‘oi, e ola makou nei (may you thrive so we all can thrive).” Together with Waikoloa Dry Forest Initiative and community members, #corals2019 helped plant 110 native trees! 🙌🌱 Grateful we had a chance to give back to this amazing place. @engagedcornell #ittakesavillage
While the Hawaiian islands are the most remote in the world, they have a multitude of amazing plants and animals. Thanks, Alex Moore, for teaching us about endemic Hawaiian flora and fauna! #corals2019 #fieldSTEM #outdoorclassroom

Aloha to our #corals2019 students! For 10 weeks, we’ll explore #traditionalecologicalknowledge, #invertbiodiversity, #oceansustainability, and #seagrassecology in Hawaii and @MarineBiol_FHL. Mahalo to Auntie Cindy from @KohalaCenter for the warm welcome and blessing!

#Corals2019 @CornellCALS will be using @KendraKarr Ecological Regime Health metric in studies of #coralhealth in Hawaii
